Educated in construction management and schooled on jobsites, John Browning and his business partner Jake Brown call on their hands-on experience from pouring foundations to driving roof nails when they approach a building venture. They are joined on the management team by Terry Garrish, who in 25 years in the industry has worked on everything from home plumbing installation to large-scale project management of nationally recognized commercial endeavors.

After high school graduation Jake started building houses then founded his own grading company while still a teenager. He and John met while both worked for respected area homebuilder - who also eventually became Jake’s father-in-law - Loy Partin. Both John and Jake credit their experience with Mr. Partin as instrumental in their success as premier home builders.

Browning and Brown Construction got its start as John Browning Builders, a side pursuit while John and Jake both still worked for Mr. Partin. “I worked afternoons when I got off and on the weekends,” explains John. “I finished basements, built decks and retaining walls...eventually I was having to turn down jobs because I didn’t have time to do them and work my full-time job. Jake helped me with most of the side jobs I did, so finally we decided that instead of turning work down, we needed to try it on our own.”

In April of 2001, Browning and Brown Construction was officially in business, and Terry joined the company in 2003 after tiring of the “rat race” and the travel required while working for large publicly-held corporations.

“We did the jobs that other builders wouldn’t do,” Jake explains of the early days of the growing company.

“We did a lot of small jobs, and treated them like big jobs, and then homeowners kept recommending us to their friends.”

John, Jake and Terry are natives of Northeast Georgia who appreciate the natural beauty and outdoor recreational activities the area has to offer. One way they seek to make their own contributions to the quality of life here is by setting the highest standards of excellence for themselves and and creating something aesthetically pleasing while achieving maximum value for their clients.

“It’s rewarding to be able to do what you want to do and see things that you know will work unfold the way you think they’re going to,” Terry explains. “We all have ideas about what we want to see done and how we want to do it. When you’re a small cog on a big wheel, you have a lot less creative latitude than when you’re a big cog on a small wheel. It’s exciting to be a part of something, to have your hand on something, and say, ‘See what can happen’ and see people catch on to the vision.”

Combining Terry’s skills in building an organization with John and Jake’s hands-on approach to unsurpassed quality, Browning and Brown has grown four-fold over the past year, making the company an even more formidable presence on the Northeast Georgia custom home building scene.

More than just project administrators, they are home builders, and they have earned a thorough understanding of the intricacies involved in custom construction projects - including the potential challenges. They place a high value on integrity in business and the sense of satisfaction that comes from a job well done that provides another satisfied client with a preferred homebuilding experience.
